CAROLE L. GROEN, 60, of Grand Portage, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. 
She was born April 24, 1942 in Ladysmith, WI. to Hallie and Mary (Keach) Mead.  She grew up in Hawkins, WI, and graduated from high school there in 1960, and from Mt. Scenario College in Ladysmith in 1987.
Carole worked as a community service professional for Norther Pines Mental Health Center in Ladysmith until moving to Grand Portage in 1999, where she was employed as director of human services for Grand Portage Tribal Council.  She enjoyed oil painting and serving the community through her occupation.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carole is survived by her husband, Marvin; two daughters, Sheryl (Michael) Konig of Rib Lake, WI and Lori (Mark) Yates of Phillips, WI and four grandchildren, John and Jade Konig and Kyle and Brandon Yates.
Visitation was on Aug. 2 at the Mount Rose Community Church in GRand Portage.  Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Hawkins, WI.
